First Redfish Of The Year

First Redfish Of The Year

Had fantastic conditions today and were treated to warmer than expected temperatures and glassy calm water. Big schools of redfish cruised up and down the banks sometimes exposing their backs at low tide. The reds happily ate cut mullet and mud minnows fished on the bottom with circle hooks. By the end of the day, we not only had the first redfish of the year but also Michal’s biggest fish ever!

Folly Beach Fishing

Folly Beach Fishing

Another beautiful October day full of active fish enjoying warmer than usual temperatures. Redfish repeatedly whipped over our rods as we fished chunks of blue crab and mud minnows on the bottom. Found success around shell rakes as well as under docks. Most of the reds were over slot with the biggest at 27 inches. Good times.

Biggest Flounder Yet

Biggest Flounder Yet

Starting fishing right off of low tide with the water rising at a pretty good clip. Found a pocket of fish where about ten rat reds and a couple keeper trout fell for mud minnows under popping corks. Switched to another shell rake and found a strong rat red bite and literally dozens came into the boat. Midway through the charter, one cork dropped hard and the drag started singing. I thought it was just a solid red mixed in with his smaller brethren. Instead, as it came to the boat, it was the biggest flounder I have seen caught in the lowcountry. A 6lb. 23″ beauty so large I could lift it into the boat by its tail. Had to return to the landing for a bigger cooler to hold the thing. Quite a thrill!

Fishing Kiawah On A Windy Day

Fishing Kiawah On A Windy Day

Left the dock at first light driving into a stiff breeze at 15-20 out of the Northeast. Tried topwater for half an hour with success getting strikes and follows but no hookups. We took shelter on bank that offered protection from the wind and the chop. We caught trout, ladyfish and bluefish with mud minnows under popping corks. Most importantly, as far as Sam was concerned, we caught sharks on blue crab!

Dock Fishing

Dock Fishing

Every year Ray and Marv drive up from Florida for three days of fishing. Despite all the options available, they want one thing: big redfish under docks. So bring out the shark rods, 60lb. test and chunks of blue crab and away we go! Had our best year yet with hot action every day. Rods would snap over and Ray and Marv would have those few pivotal seconds to get that fish out from under a dock before it wrapped around a piling. Good times. Lots of redfish ten pounds or more. Can’t wait until next year.

It was a bit windier than forecasted yesterday afternoon making it a no go on the flats. Worked docks instead with cut mullet and found happy fish that made our drags scream. Brandon caught his biggest fish ever! Good charter in some tough conditions.

Seabrook Island Fishing

Seabrook Island Fishing

Finally, a wonderfully sunny day with moderate wind! The Negrete family sure brought the good weather with them. Started at high tide and found no takers on mud minnows under corks. Once the water came out of the grass at mid-tide, the redfish would smoke the cut mullet in front of their path. Bella’s 26″ redfish was the highlight of a happy family trip.

Sullivan’s Island Fishing

Birthday Winner

Spent a full day charter with members of the Bohan clan as they competed to see who could catch the biggest redfish. We were fishing the day right in front of a storm system and I hoped the bite would be on. Boy, was it ever! Redfish would just flat out crush blue crab. Matt got on the board early with a nice twelve pounder only to be topped by Joe’s fourteen pounder later in the afternoon. Colby, the birthday boy, slammed the lid shut when he boated a whopping 16lb. red!

Fishing Folly Beach

Fishing Folly Beach

We left out of Folly Beach this morning hoping to find some shelter from forecasted strong NE winds. Tucked away in a corner with the wind and current together, we found a great bite while pitching bait around structure. The return of cracked blue crab proved to be popular with the redfish and drew the most hits. Once the tide turned and the wind went against the current, the whole place shut down. However, not before Mike landed a nice ten pound redfish, his biggest ever!

Birthday Redfish

By Fishing, Fishing Report

As part of their annual birthday celebration, Matt and Will booked our regular full day charter. While the tide was still in the grass, we picked at fish with minnows under popping corks. Once the water came out, the action was non-stop. Reds on the inside of docks smoked our corks. Once low tide hit, we fished docks where redfish made a mockery of our 60lb test braid rigged on shark rods but we still managed to get many in the 8 to 10 pound range out. As the water came back in, we tossed corks over shell rakes and continued to get pummeled. Caught literally dozens of redfish. Happy birthday guys!
