Fishing Charter Charleston SCStarted at first light this morning throwing topwater lures. Just after sunrise, Chris landed his first redfish ever on topwater, a nice four pound fish. With the water falling, we fished along shell banks catching redfish and trout using popping corks and paddletail artificials. At low tide, we headed back to Kiawah for some sight fishing in the flats. Chris hooked up with the very nice 9 pounder pictured above. Several more reds caught after that but none quite as big.

In hopes of getting his first good sized redfish, Dr. Loehle from Kentucky and his daughter’s boyfriend, Matt, fished with me this windy morning. We missed a few fish early in the morning on topwater. Switching over to mud minnows under a popping cork did the trick and the doctor boated a healthy 6 pound, 24″ redfish pictured above. We caught several more reds and a trout with the same rig. We also caught trout using the Chicken on a Chain paddletail grub.

pa210028Larry from New York fished with me on the fly rod for a full day on Tuesday and a half day on Wednesday. We were able to catch redfish in the grass at high tide and corner them on the flats at low tide. Larry caught progressively bigger fish on Tuesday ending with the nine pounder pictured above. On Wednesday, his wife, Nancy, joined us. The redfish were present again but the couple both got into flounder too. Nancy had the biggest, a 17″ three pound flounder, using spinning tackle while Larry to his amusement boated his first flounder on the fly.

Jason and Renee from Nashville, TN fished with me this afternoon. Not too far into the trip, it became apparent that there was a competitive side to this couple. Renee stuck first with the excellent 21″ flounder pictured above taken on a white jerk shad. With a rising tide, we fished along grass banks with mud minnows under corks and caught a mix of reds and trout. At the end of the day, Renee nosed pass Jason for total number of fish. I suspect though there will a second round.

Bill from Atlanta joined me this morning for some fishing around Folly Beach. We missed a few fish as Bill got warmed up but when it turned on he was ready to go! Caught redfish and flounder using mud minnows under a popping cork, jerk shad and cut bait on the bottom. Not surprisingly the redfish really liked the blue crab chunks including the nice 5 pounder that Bill is holding above. Got off the water right before the rain started pouring down.

Mark and his son, Blake, met me at Folly Beach for an afternoon on the water. We started the day by catching a bunch of trout along the grass banks with grubs and D.O.A shrimp. As the tide fell, we moved onto a flat looking for redfish and flounder. Mark started tearing up the flounder right away and Blake soon followed. Then, both landed nice redfish to complete their lowcountry slam. Finished the day with a mix of more flounder and redfish. Almost all fish caught on artificials; the fish just weren’t interested in live bait. Good job guys!

Fly Fishing Charleston SC
After a Father’s Day outing when several redfish broke him off, Dad had his revenge today on his birthday trip. Fished an hour and a half on each side of dead low tide this afternoon. Cloudy skies combined with a modest wind didn’t make for the best sight fishing but we were able to target a few pods of fish. Dad hooked into this 10 pounder and after finessing him around three oyster beds got him into the boat.
