Launched from Folly Beach for a full day charter with Spencer, Ed and Nick. They did quite well for themselves. Half way through the trip they had already tangled with six different species: redfish, trout, flounder, ladyfish, bonnethead shark and bluefish. Most of the fish were firsts for all three anglers; Spencer is above with his first redfish. Ended the trip sight casting to big reds.

Epic fly rod day. Poled up on a flat right after high tide and found redfish tails waving in the air. Redfish were just stacked up waiting for the bait being sucked out of the marsh. Eric soon hooked and landed a 5 pounder, his first redfish on the fly. Several minutes later, he joined the double digit club with a 10 pounder (above). As the last of the water came off the flat, he also boated a 9 pound redfish. All fish caught on a Copperhead fly.
Fishing Charters On Folly Beach

Went out for a charter from Folly Beach this morning with Jeff in search of his first redfish. Loaded up on menhaden with a single toss of the cast net and away we went. Jeff lost a nice fish right when we pulled up to our first spot; it simply snapped 20lb test line on one of its big runs. It wasn’t until our third spot that Jeff boated a nice 21″ redfish that ate cut menhaden. He also followed up this fish by catching more using a white jerk shad. A great day indeed.
Fishing At Folly Beach

In the face of some rainy weather and the possibility of thundershowers, Jack, Will and Beverly joined me for a short trip this morning leaving out of Folly Beach. Using mud minnows under popping corks, we caught a small redfish and missed several trout. We moved to a flat where we found some bigger reds who happily ate cracked blue crab while the winds jumped up markedly and the rain increased. Catching fish made us quickly forget the weather. The highlight was Will’s 5 pound redfish.
Fishing Conditions In Charleston
Tuesday, July 7th, 2009Weather has cooled a little bit and the trout are remaining active throughout the day. Catching most of them with a DOA shrimp under a popping cork. Have had several eat a jerk shad. The menhaden continue to grow larger and larger and cut menhaden on the bottom remains excellent for redfish.
