Isle Of Palms Fishing Charters
Joined this morning by Kenneth and Lukas who had traveled from Denmark to visit their relative, Jonas. Lukas was most interested in sharks and using cracked blue crab we were able to hook up with two but both broke off close to the boat. Jonas also fishing with crab then lost a few undetermined fish on the oyster beds. Towards the end of the charter, Kenneth using artificials snapped the streak by landing redfish and flounder.

Kiawah Fly Fishing

Sunday, June 21st, 2009

Took Dad out for a morning of fishing on the fly rod for Father’s day on the flats of Kiawah. Fished the falling tide, sight fishing for reds as water drained off the flats. Dad hooked up with four and was broken off every time. Dupre’s gold spoon fly and Copperheads were both working well. Next time, Dad, we’ll get them for sure.

Fishing On Sullivan’s Island

Monday, June 15th, 2009

millman-5To show another side of the Lowcountry to his family members visiting from England, Richard chartered a half day trip. We set out for some Isle of Palms and Sullivan’s Island fishing. Briony hooked the first three fish of the day but her first two fish wouldn’t cooperate and both came unbuttoned. Her third time was the charm and she landed a great 8 pound redfish. Chris fought several fish and landed a nice redfish in the slot. Richard, ever the gentleman, chose to only fight fish to avoid showing up his guests. Congratulations to our visitors from across the pond!

Family Fishing Trips In Charleston SC
Spent a full day fly fishing in McCllelanville with Richard and his sons. We worked on casting, knot tying, fly selection and reading the water. It was a great time and all three markedly improved. I suspect there will be plenty more tight lines in their family going forward.

Folly Beach Fishing Trips

Folly Beach Fishing Trips
Had a great charter with Jamie and his brother-in-law and father-in-law, all from Atlanta. Jamie set the bar early with an 11 pound redfish while his companions followed with impressive redfish and black drum of their own. Had several fish we just could not turn no matter how much we tightened the drag on the reels. Finished the trip with trout using DOA shrimp under a popping cork. Good times.

Fishing For Kids In Charleston SC
Went out for a short trip with Matt and his two shark obsessed sons, ages 3 and 4. Brought a bonnethead shark to the boat early in the charter and then the boys quickly became focused on catching Menhaden in the live well. Dad ended the trip with a 18″ trout.

James Island Fishing Charters

Another trip starting first thing in the morning and the water is slick when we pull up to the first spot. Start throwing artificials right out of the gates sticking with the jerk shad. Sam gets a strike as we drift over some structure and a few minutes later boats his biggest redfish ever, an 11 pounder. He did a really good job keeping that fish from wrapping him around different oyster beds. We do another drift trying to get back on the school of fish that blew out during the fight. Pick up two small reds and then it is off. Try blue crab on the bottom but no interest. Sam’s first fish is the highlight of the morning.

Fishing Charter Charleston

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

Spend Monday and Tuesday scouting for fish mostly from the poling platform as the water clarity continues to improve. Towards the end of Tuesday, I start casting to schools of redfish but never stake the boat off with the push pole in advance. So while fighting the fish, I am trying not to lose the push pole, bounce into oyster beds or let any slack get into the line. Manage to land three reds, all modest size with the biggest at 5 pounds, but the whole process is a trainwreck. Glad to see the water settling down.
